Menopause and perimenopause nutrition
Your body is changing, and the things that used to work don't seem to any more. I help women in Perth and across Australia work out what's actually going on with their eating, energy and body, and what's worth changing first.
For you if…
your weight or shape has changed, especially around your middle, without much change in how you eat
your appetite, sleep or energy are all over the place and it's affecting how you eat
you've been told to think about your bones, cholesterol or blood sugar
your gut has become less predictable: more bloating, constipation or reflux
you're overwhelmed by conflicting advice about what women "should" eat at this stage
How I can help
We look at your whole picture: what and when you eat, your medicines and supplements, your sleep, activity, gut and recent blood tests. Then we focus on the few changes most likely to help you, which often include:
enough protein, spread across the day, to help maintain muscle
calcium and vitamin D for bone health, from food first where possible
fibre and carbohydrate quality for gut, heart and blood sugar health
eating patterns that fit around poor sleep, work and family life
realistic support with weight changes, with no rigid rules or banned foods
Nutrition can't stop menopause or replace medical care. It can make a real difference to how you feel day to day and to your long-term health.
Your first appointment
75 minutes, in clinic or by telehealth. We go through your history and current concerns in detail and agree on a first step you can start that week. Reviews help us check what's working and adjust.
Working with your GP
Decisions about menopausal hormone therapy and other medicines stay with your GP or specialist. If anything you tell me needs medical review, I'll let you know and can write to your GP.
Where I see people
Pelvic Health Clinic in South Perth, monthly in Subiaco, Harvest Lakes Medical Practice on Tuesdays, and telehealth anywhere in Australia.
